FAQ

  1. Can players from other communities join?

    Players can join from anywhere in Edmonton and surrounding area. Players will be able to choose from any community league offering the CGSA program during the registration process. We encourage you to select your home community if possible or your nearest community.

  2. How do you keep the fees low?

    CGSA is able to keep fees low because we are completely volunteer run. Our fees cover the cost of insurance, coach screening and training, referee payment and training, uniform, equipment and operational costs and finally field and facility costs. We do not charge any extras which is how we continue to bring players an affordable and community driven program.

  3. What levels of insurance are there?

    The participating communities provide insurance coverage for all registered members including players, coaches, volunteers and game officials.

  4. Are the coaches screened?

    Yes, security clearance with a vulnerable Sector Check is required for all coaches, assistant coaches and team managers

  5. Are the coaches qualified?

    Yes. The participating communities have been providing qualified coaches for years. Coaches are provided with both technical and ethical training. CGSA representatives provide support to coaches both new and old throughout the seasons.

  6. What is the refund policy?

    CGSA Refund Policy:

    Once the registration fee for any player has been submitted to the community league participating in the CGSA season, that money will become property of the league.

          1.The parent/guardian of a player may request a refund at any time prior to the second practice or game of the season. This refund will be for the full amount of the registration paid.
          2. The parent/guardian of a player may request a refund at any time after the second practice or game of the season but prior to the fourth. This refund will be a pro-rated refund.
          3. If for any reason the CGSA season is cancelled due to a government shutdown, all players will receive a prorated refund based on games played.
          4. Any other refunds will be on a case by case basis and at the discretion of the Community League.

  7. Will I be able to get funding?

    Yes, funding for CGSA is available through Jumpstart at https://jumpstart.canadiantire.ca/ up to $300 per sport per child and through KidSport at https://kidsportcanada.ca/ up to $250 per sport per child so long as parents fall below the low-income cut off guidelines provided and provide copies of their Canada Child Benefit Statement.

    Families must use the community league as the payee when applying for funding to these programs and not CGSA.

    If families are unable to access funding through these programs but still need assistance please speak to your community league directly as cost should not be a barrier in sports.

  8. What happens if there isn’t enough players

    CGSA has gone with smaller roster sizes to maximize teams and play times for players. In the event of a division having smaller numbers, CGSA is ready willing and able to combine age groups or genders as needed to ensure the best season for all players. We guarantee a spot on a team for all registered players.

  9. If a team folds where will my child play?

    No Team will fold due to lack of players or coaches, but, even in rare cases if it happens, your child will be on a different team, either with a team from the same community, or a team from a member community.

  10. Where will the games and practices be - will there be fields, gyms and indoor centers for my child to play at?

    For the outdoor season, games and practices will be scheduled at the community rinks, the city fields and lined green spaces.

    For the indoor seasons the facilities you may see CGSA teams at include the Millennium, the Dow, the Servus Centre, and local school gyms. These are dependent on availability and may change season to season.

  11. Who will referee?

    CGSA accepts all applications from those 14 and older who are interested in refereeing. We will train and support referees throughout. Referees with CGSA are paid as this is a casual job.
